A new study has revealed that electric vehicle (EV) batteries are significantly more durable and reliable than earlier assessments suggested. Researchers analyzed performance data from thousands of EVs over several years, finding that battery degradation occurs at a slower rate than anticipated.
The findings indicate that most modern EV batteries retain over 90% of their capacity even after 200,000–300,000 kilometers of use. This challenges previous assumptions that battery life would sharply decline after shorter distances, alleviating concerns about long-term replacement costs.
Experts note that advances in battery management systems, improved thermal regulation, and more robust chemistries have contributed to this enhanced longevity. The study underscores the potential for EVs to offer not only environmental benefits but also durable, cost-effective ownership over the long term.
Manufacturers and consumers alike may reconsider lifecycle expectations, resale values, and warranty structures in light of these results.
