Nissan has unveiled the new Tekton compact crossover, a rebadged version of the India-built Renault Duster that will be produced alongside its sibling at the Renault Nissan plant in Chennai.
The new model replaces the Nissan Terrano, which was based on the first-generation Renault Duster but failed to achieve strong sales. Nissan says the name "Tekton" is inspired by the word meaning "craftsman" or "architect."
While mechanically identical to the Indian Renault Duster, the Tekton features Nissan-specific exterior styling inspired by the Patrol SUV, with redesigned headlights, taillights, and front-end details.
The crossover measures 4,349 mm in length, 1,815 mm in width, and 1,674 mm in height, with a 2,657 mm wheelbase. It offers 212 mm of ground clearance, a 26.9-degree approach angle, and a 34.7-degree departure angle. Like the Indian Duster, the Tekton is available exclusively with front-wheel drive.
Engine options include a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline engine producing 100 hp and 166 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed manual transmission, and a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine delivering 163 hp and 280 Nm. The larger engine is available with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Standard equipment includes LED lighting, 17-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, power windows, a four-speaker Arkamys audio system, and a suite of active and passive safety features. Higher trims add adaptive cruise control, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic glass roof, wireless smartphone connectivity, power-adjustable driver's seat, and a premium Arkamys Auditorium 3D sound system.
The Tekton offers a 518-liter luggage compartment, expanding to 1,789 liters with the rear seats folded. Nissan plans to export the model from India to developing markets, primarily in Africa and the Middle East.
