China has expressed its readiness to begin negotiations with the European Union on a free trade agreement. According to Beijing, there is significant potential for cooperation, particularly in the field of rare earth metals — resources that are strategically important for European industry. The EU, in turn, has confirmed its interest in ensuring stable supplies of these materials.
As part of this dialogue, the EU has established a “special communication channel” with Chinese authorities to guarantee the continuity of deliveries.
European Commission Vice President for Trade Maroš Šefčovič noted that uncontrolled export restrictions imposed by China could negatively impact manufacturing across the EU.
It’s worth noting that China has spent decades preparing for greater economic independence from the West.
Meanwhile, Beijing has also suspended 24% of tariffs on U.S. goods for one year.
