Naftogaz continues its international efforts to enforce a court decision against Gazprom and recover approximately $1.4 billion abroad.

According to reports, the Court of the International Financial Centre “Astana” in Kazakhstan has authorized the compulsory enforcement of an arbitration award in favor of Naftogaz against Gazprom on Kazakh territory. This decision comes as Ukraine’s gas infrastructure has continued to come under repeated Russian attacks.

Naftogaz CEO Serhii Koretskyi stated that this is the first publicly known ruling by a foreign court that formally recognizes and allows enforcement of the arbitration award against the Russian company in another jurisdiction. He added that the company is actively working on implementing the decision and pursuing asset recovery abroad.

Earlier developments in the case include a March ruling by the Swiss Supreme Court, which rejected Gazprom’s appeal to annul the arbitration decision issued in June 2025. Under that ruling, Gazprom is required to pay more than $1.4 billion in debt related to gas transit services, along with additional legal costs and compensation.

The enforcement push is part of a broader legal strategy by Naftogaz to collect damages through international courts and arbitration mechanisms in jurisdictions where Gazprom assets may be accessible.
