Ukraine has received another €1.2 billion from the European Union under the Ukraine Support Loan program, with the funds to be used for priority defense needs, Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi said on October 7.
With the latest tranche, Ukraine has received nearly €13 billion in defense financing under the program, according to the prime minister.
“We continue working with our European partners to ensure that the remaining funding provided for under the program arrives on time and in full,” Koretskyi said.
The latest payment comes as Ukraine faces significant pressure on its defense budget amid the ongoing war. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in late August that Ukraine needed an additional $27 billion to finance its defense needs, including about $10 billion by the end of 2026.
According to the Ukrainian government, the budget shortfall is partly linked to military personnel costs but is mainly driven by the need to finance missiles, drones and other weapons.
In September, Ukraine received another €3.3 billion from the EU under the Ukraine Support Loan, which was also allocated to priority defense needs, according to Koretskyi.
The EU's broader Ukraine Support Loan framework provides €90 billion in financing for Ukraine's urgent needs in 2026 and 2027.
