A parcel explosion at a postal sorting facility in Kyiv’s Obolon district on Friday morning, June 5, left one person dead and two others injured, according to the Kyiv branch of the National Police of Ukraine.
The incident occurred at a mail sorting center during the inspection of one of the parcels, police said.
A 59-year-old man was killed on the spot, while two other employees aged 37 and 41 sustained injuries and were hospitalized.
Emergency responders, including police investigators, explosives experts, State Emergency Service units, and medical teams, are currently working at the scene to determine the circumstances of the explosion.
Authorities have not yet confirmed what caused the detonation, but initial reports indicate it occurred during the examination of a package inside the facility.
Police noted that a similar incident previously occurred in Kyiv in October 2025, when a parcel exploded at a postal sorting center, injuring multiple employees. In that case, investigators later determined the explosion was linked to illegally shipped ammunition concealed inside a package sent through postal services.
