The Turkish fishing vessel DURU 67 was attacked near the coast of Sevastopol and subsequently sank, according to the Turkish Coast Guard. One fisherman was killed and four others were injured.

A nearby fishing vessel, BURAK KAYA, rescued five wounded crew members from the sinking boat and headed toward the Turkish port of Inebolu.

“One of the injured fishermen, who was in critical condition during the evacuation, unfortunately died,” the Turkish Coast Guard said.

The body of the deceased fisherman and the injured survivors were transferred to Coast Guard units upon arrival. All injured crew members received medical treatment.

According to Turkish broadcaster NTV, Kastamonu Provincial Health Director Fevzi Yavuzilmaz said the victims suffered shrapnel wounds.

“We had four injured people. These injuries were caused by shrapnel fragments,” Yavuzilmaz said.

One of the fishermen required a minor surgical procedure involving the insertion of a chest tube. Two of the injured sustained relatively minor wounds, while two others were more seriously hurt.

Turkish authorities have not yet identified who was responsible for the attack, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.

The event follows another maritime incident in May, when a Turkish vessel departing from Ukraine's Odesa region was reportedly struck during a Russian attack, injuring two crew members.
