Hourly electricity outage schedules will be introduced in some regions of Ukraine on October 1 because of the difficult situation in the power system following Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, Ukrenergo said.
Under the announced restrictions, power consumption limits for industrial and business customers will apply from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Hourly outages for all categories of consumers will be introduced from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., affecting 0.5 of a designated outage queue.
Ukrenergo said the restrictions were necessary because of damage caused by Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities. The company warned that the situation in the power system could change and urged consumers to follow updates from their local electricity distribution operators.
The announcement followed a major Russian attack on September 30 that targeted energy infrastructure around Kyiv and caused emergency power cuts in Kyiv and several regions. Reuters reported that the assault was one of the largest coordinated strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in months.
Ukrenergo also called on Ukrainians to use electricity efficiently, particularly during periods of high demand.
