At the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Curacao goalkeeper Eloy Room made history by setting an all-time tournament record for saves in regular time.

In the match against Ecuador, the 37-year-old produced an outstanding performance with 15 saves, helping his team secure a surprise 0–0 draw and earn Curacao’s first-ever point at a World Cup.

The previous record for saves in 90 minutes (13) was shared by Ramón Quiroga (1978) and Guillermo Ochoa (2018). The overall World Cup record, including extra time, remains with Tim Howard, who made 16 saves against Belgium in 2014.

After the match, Room was named Man of the Match.

Separately, Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha also drew attention at the tournament after a standout performance against Spain, earning MVP honors and gaining significant global attention.
