Ukrainian tennis stars Marta Kostyuk and Elina Svitolina continued their impressive runs at Roland Garros 2026 by reaching the quarterfinals of the French Open.
Kostyuk produced one of the tournament’s biggest upsets, defeating world No. 3 and four-time Roland Garros champion Iga Świątek of Poland in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1, in just 1 hour and 40 minutes. The victory sends Kostyuk into her first-ever Roland Garros quarterfinal and her second Grand Slam quarterfinal overall after the 2024 Australian Open.
Svitolina also booked her place in the last eight, battling back from a set down to defeat Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. It marks Svitolina’s sixth Roland Garros quarterfinal appearance and the 15th Grand Slam quarterfinal of her career.
The two Ukrainians will now face each other in the quarterfinals, guaranteeing Ukraine a representative in the tournament’s semifinals.
Roland Garros is one of tennis’ four Grand Slam events and is played on the clay courts of Paris. Earlier in the tournament, Ukrainian players set a national record for representation in the later stages of the competition.
