Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina secured a hard-fought victory in the quarterfinals of a WTA 1000 clay-court tournament in Rome.

She came from behind to defeat world No. 2 Elena Rybakina with a score of 2–6, 6–4, 6–4.

In the semifinals, Svitolina will face Iga Świątek, who is currently ranked No. 3 in the world.

The 31-year-old Svitolina, a former world No. 3, remains the most successful tennis player in Ukraine’s history. She has won 19 WTA singles titles and claimed a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics—the country’s first-ever Olympic medal in tennis.

This season, she has already won a title in Auckland and reached the semifinals in Dubai, Indian Wells, Stuttgart, and the Australian Open.
