Microsoft released the major Windows 11 25H2 update over a month ago, allowing users who wanted it to install it manually. But what about those who have been delaying the update?
It has emerged that the software giant has started automatically downloading 25H2 on certain PCs running older Windows 11 versions whose support has ended. According to sources, Windows 11 25H2 is now being pushed to devices running Windows 11 23H2, whose official support ended on 11 November 2025. This applies to PCs with Home and Pro editions.
Users running even older versions, such as Windows 11 22H2 and 21H2, will also receive 25H2 automatically. The update is downloaded via Windows Update without requesting user permission. Once downloaded, it will also be deployed automatically, although users can schedule a restart and temporarily postpone installation—but fully avoiding the update is not possible.
This automatic update does not apply to Windows 11 Enterprise editions, which are managed centrally, or to Windows 11 Education devices, typically used in schools and educational institutions.
Currently, Microsoft is not pushing Windows 11 25H2 to Windows 10 users. Devices enrolled in the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program will continue receiving regular security updates. Users who are not yet in the ESU program are advised to consider joining or upgrading to Windows 11, as Windows 10 support officially ended in October 2025, meaning no further updates—including security patches—will be released for the OS.
