Samsung Electronics and Google have introduced new smart glasses at Google I/O 2026, a product first announced in December last year. According to Google, the device was developed in collaboration with eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. The glasses run as a companion device to smartphones and integrate with the Android XR platform and the Gemini AI system. Two versions were showcased: audio glasses with voice interaction and display-equipped models capable of projecting information directly into the user’s field of view.

The first release, expected this autumn in selected markets, will be the audio version. It allows users to interact with Gemini via voice or a touch-sensitive frame. Samsung described the device as designed for “hands-free” everyday use. The glasses can provide navigation, step-by-step voice directions, help find nearby places, and assist with tasks via voice commands. Other features include:

  • sending messages
  • managing phone calls
  • summarizing unread texts
  • controlling music playback
  • photo and video capture
  • real-time language translation with preserved speaker intonation
  • translation of text from menus or road signs

The device includes a built-in camera for photos and videos. Using the Nano Banana model, users can also edit images through voice commands, such as removing background objects or adding visual effects. Google also stated that Gemini Intelligence can execute multi-step tasks in the background. For example, it can place a coffee order via DoorDash without requiring the user to take out their phone.

The glasses will be compatible with both Android smartphones and iPhones, and will support integration with third-party services including Uber and the language-learning app Mondly.

The first smart glasses collections are planned for release in autumn 2026, with further technical specifications and market availability details to be announced later.

Previously, Google also announced Googlebook, a new laptop lineup built around the Gemini Intelligence system, positioning it as the next evolution after Chromebooks with deeper AI integration across device functions.
