U.S. President Donald Trump has approved a bipartisan bill to strengthen sanctions against Russia.
This was reported by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham on X following his meeting with Trump.
“After a very productive meeting with President Trump today, during which we discussed a range of issues, he gave the green light to the bipartisan Russia sanctions bill that I’ve been working on for months with Senator Blumenthal and many others,” Graham stated.
He called this a “very timely decision,” noting that “Ukraine is making concessions for the sake of peace, while Putin only talks and continues killing innocent people.”
According to Graham, the legislation will allow President Trump to punish countries that buy discounted Russian oil, which finances Putin’s war machine. The bill would give Trump significant leverage over countries such as China, India, and Brazil to push them to stop purchasing cheap Russian oil.
Graham expressed hope that the bill would receive strong bipartisan support “as soon as next week.”
