U.S. at UN: Russia’s “Nutcracker” strike is a dangerous escalation

The United States condemns Russia’s continued attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and considers the January 9 “Nutcracker” missile strike on Lviv a “dangerous and inexplicable escalation.”
U.S. Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Tammy Bruce stated this during a UN Security Council meeting, Radio Liberty reports.

“With regard to Ukraine, including the launch of the nuclear-capable ‘Nutcracker’ ballistic missile near the border of Poland and NATO, this represents yet another dangerous and inexplicable escalation of the war, even as the United States is urgently working with Kyiv, other partners, and Moscow to end the conflict through negotiations,” Bruce said.

She stressed that Russia’s actions “risk expanding and intensifying the war” instead of contributing to peace efforts, and urged Ukraine, Russia, and European partners to demonstrate a “serious commitment to peace.”

“We condemn Russia’s ongoing and escalating attacks on Ukraine’s energy facilities and other civilian infrastructure. These strikes mock the cause of peace, which remains a top priority for the world and for President Trump,” the U.S. diplomat added.
