Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reviewed a detailed briefing from the Ukrainian negotiation team on contacts with the United States and instructed officials to finalize a document outlining U.S. security guarantees for Ukraine, according to a post on his Telegram channel.
Preparation for possible agreement signing
Zelensky said the parties discussed the schedule for the next two weeks, including planned meetings, document preparation, and potential signing of agreements. He emphasized that the security guarantees document should be “of historic significance” and that its text has now reached that level.
Reconstruction and economic partnership
The meeting also focused on documents related to Ukraine’s reconstruction and economic development. Zelensky tasked Prime Minister Olha Sviridenko, Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka, and Minister Oleksiy Sobolev to oversee all economic aspects of upcoming agreements between Ukraine and the U.S., as well as trilateral arrangements involving Ukraine, Europe, and the U.S. Parameters for the use of international reconstruction funds were also outlined.
Position on Russia and sanctions
Zelensky noted that the U.S. is communicating with Russia regarding a political framework for ending the war. “We have presented our vision, and there must be clear feedback from Russia on whether they are ready to end the war under real conditions. If they are not, pressure on the aggressor must continue,” he stressed.
He also highlighted the need to strengthen sanctions against Russia’s shadow fleet, financial evasion schemes, and to limit the country’s export revenues in the event the war continues.
Thanks to international partners
The president thanked all partners supporting Ukraine in protecting civilian lives and maintaining diplomatic efforts toward a just peace. “Thank you to everyone worldwide who helps us protect lives in Ukraine and stay on the diplomatic track,” Zelensky said.
U.S. peace plan
Ukraine continues negotiations on peace with European and American partners. In Paris, a “coalition of the willing” meeting resulted in Kyiv, Paris, and London signing a declaration of intent regarding the deployment of a Western contingent in Ukraine.
According to sources, Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump have agreed on 90% of the U.S. peace plan, which could be submitted to a nationwide referendum. On January 7, Kremlin special representative Kirill Dmitriev was reportedly seen in Paris at the U.S. Embassy, where he met with Trump advisors Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to discuss the American peace plan for Ukraine.
