Spain’s traffic authority, Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT), has introduced a new road sign designed to alert drivers about slow-moving heavy vehicles on long uphill stretches, reports Majorca Daily Bulletin.
The new S-993 sign is the latest addition to Spain’s traffic management system and is intended exclusively for high-capacity roads. Its strategic placement focuses on highways and dual carriageways, where speed differences between vehicles on ascending gradients pose particular safety challenges.
The sign features a distinctive design: a yellow background with blue symbols showing a car approaching a truck alongside an uphill icon. It is positioned to provide adequate warning before drivers reach sections where heavy vehicles may experience significant speed reduction.
DGT confirmed that the sign will be strategically installed ahead of challenging highway sections, particularly in areas with limited visibility due to curves or elevation changes. The authority emphasizes that this measure addresses the safety risks caused by large speed differences when trucks navigate steep inclines.
