The ranking of the most popular cars and light commercial vehicles worldwide is based on data from 162 countries, updated with the latest available registration figures from local authorities.
While traditional diesel and petrol models continue to dominate the global Top 50, new electric vehicles are steadily gaining ground as the industry shifts toward electrification. However, leading brands such as BYD and Tesla have faced challenges, with slowing sales due to gaps in charging infrastructure and issues within global supply chains.
Looking at data from January to August 2025, the Toyota RAV4 rose two places to become the new global leader (+1.1%). The Toyota Corolla ranked second (−8.8%). The Ford F-Series climbed one spot to third (+12.2%), while the Tesla Model Y dropped two places to fourth (−11.3%). The Honda CR-V secured fifth place (+1%).
