Ukraine has received nearly $1.3 billion from the government of Japan under the World Bank–backed PEACE in Ukraine project.
According to Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko, the funds have been credited to Ukraine’s general state budget and are being directed toward social expenditures.
This is the second tranche provided by Japan through the G7’s Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration for Ukraine (ERA) mechanism, which has a total scale of $50 billion. Since February 2022, Japan’s total budget support to Ukraine has exceeded $10.7 billion, including over $2.7 billion in grants.
The financial assistance is aimed at:
- covering social payments (pensions, salaries in key sectors)
- supporting the state budget during wartime
- maintaining macroeconomic and financial stability
- ensuring the functioning of essential public services
Ukraine’s leadership emphasized that this support is critical for sustaining the country’s financial system and thanked Japan as well as the World Bank for coordinating international assistance.
Japan has also announced plans for additional support, including humanitarian and technical aid, and is considering broader cooperation in defense-related initiatives.
