Emergency power outages have begun in several regions of Ukraine due to extreme heat, according to regional energy companies and local authorities.

At least two regions — Khmelnytskyi and Rivne — have already introduced emergency electricity restrictions.

Khmelnytskyioblenergo reported that the outages were caused by extreme weather conditions, noting that “due to extreme weather, emergency power cuts occurred in certain districts of the city and region.”

Rivne Regional Military Administration head Oleksandr Koval said that the abnormal heat has led to overloads in the power system, resulting in temporary outages. Energy workers are operating in an intensified mode to respond quickly to disruptions.

Energy officials have warned that the situation is becoming increasingly strained due to the heatwave. Earlier reports from energy company Yasno indicated that every additional 3°C in Kyiv increases electricity demand by around 100 MW.

Ukrenergo has also suggested that during the summer, outages of up to five hours are possible under certain conditions — particularly if heatwaves coincide with large-scale Russian attacks.

Meanwhile, several regional energy companies have published forecast schedules for possible outages on June 30 in areas including Khmelnytskyi, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Kyiv regions, typically lasting around one hour for household consumers.
