On April 18 in Kyiv, a man opened fire on civilians in the Holosiivskyi district, killing at least one person and injuring several others. The exact number of casualties is still being уточнено.

According to the National Police of Ukraine, a special operation is underway to apprehend the attacker. Police units and the KORD special forces are on the scene.

Preliminary reports indicate that the suspect is inside a Velmart supermarket, where he may be holding hostages. The area has been cordoned off by security forces. Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed that the gunman remains inside the building and that gunfire is still being heard.

Social media reports also suggest a fire broke out following the incident, with footage showing thick smoke. There are unverified claims that an explosive device may have been used, but this has not been officially confirmed.

Klitschko later stated that the death toll has risen to several people, and among the injured is a child who is being transported to hospital. Adults are receiving medical assistance at the scene.

“The special operation to detain the shooter, who is currently inside the supermarket, is ongoing. According to preliminary information, gunshots are still being heard inside,” the statement said.
