Poland this week intercepted another Russian reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea, the Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said, according to RMF24.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, October 30, in the town of Kartusy, Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed that Polish MiG-29 fighter jets had intercepted the Russian aircraft.
This was not the first incident of the week. On Tuesday, October 28, a pair of Polish MiG-29s intercepted a Russian Il-20 over the Baltic Sea.
According to Polish military sources, the Il-20 was conducting a reconnaissance mission in international airspace without filing a flight plan and with its transponder turned off.
Russia has repeatedly engaged in provocative airspace violations against NATO countries, the most notable being the September incursion into Estonian airspace.
General Alexus Grinkevich, Commander of NATO Joint Forces, previously stated that the alliance’s firm response to Russian incursions into Polish and Estonian airspace has forced Russia to act more cautiously.
