The Trump administration has taken another step that further escalates tensions in bilateral relations.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the social network Truth Social that the airspace over Venezuela has been shut down.
“To all airlines, pilots, drug traffickers, and human traffickers — please be advised that the AIRSPACE OVER AND AROUND VENEZUELA IS COMPLETELY CLOSED,” the U.S. president wrote.
The core dispute between the United States and Venezuela stems from Washington’s refusal to recognize Nicolás Maduro’s government as legitimate, accusing him of running a criminal narco-regime.
The Trump administration has reportedly considered multiple military options for Venezuela — including direct strikes on forces protecting Maduro, as well as operations aimed at seizing control of the country’s vital oil infrastructure.
