Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence Directorate (Головне управління розвідки Міністерства оборони України, HUR) has confirmed that a suspected assassin detained in Kyiv was preparing an attempt on the life of its representative, Andrii Yusov, who also serves as deputy head of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
According to the agency, the detainee is a former serviceman with experience in intelligence-related activities. Ukrainian police reported earlier that a 38-year-old man had been arrested in Kyiv after allegedly being recruited by Russian спецслужби. He reportedly agreed to carry out the killing for $100,000 and was planning to use an FPV drone with the involvement of an intermediary.
Officials say this is not the first attempt targeting Yusov. In February, Ukrainian and Moldovan authorities detained several individuals accused of preparing a series of high-profile assassinations in Ukraine on behalf of Russian intelligence services, including a plot involving Yusov.
Separately, in December 2025, Ukraine’s counterintelligence service reportedly disrupted another assassination attempt against a HUR officer in central Kyiv, although the intended target was not publicly identified at the time.
