Ukraine’s National Police conduct 70 searches nationwide over fake medical services

Ukraine’s National Police announced that on Friday morning, March 20, they are conducting 70 searches in medical institutions and at the homes of facility managers across the country.

According to the National Police of Ukraine, the investigative actions concern schemes involving the embezzlement of public funds that were intended for patient treatment under state medical guarantee programs.

“The case involves fictitious medical services and manipulation of data in the electronic healthcare system. According to preliminary estimates, the damage may amount to hundreds of millions of hryvnias,” the statement said.

The investigation is being conducted under the following criminal charges:

  • misappropriation and embezzlement of property (Article 191)
  • abuse of power or official position (Article 364)
  • official forgery (Article 366)
  • interference with automated systems (Article 362)
  • official negligence (Article 367)
  • money laundering (Article 209)

The investigative actions involve:

  • the Main Investigation Department of the National Police
  • оперативники (operatives) of the Strategic Investigations Department
  • regional law enforcement units
  • prosecutors

with the support of:

  • the Ministry of Health of Ukraine
  • the National Health Service of Ukraine
  • Additional details are expected to be released later.
