A new study has shown that kefir, a popular fermented dairy drink, may help slow aging in body tissues. Scientists fed elderly mice with an inactivated strain of the lactic acid bacteria Lentilactobacillus kefiri YRC2606 for eight weeks and found reduced signs of inflammation, while key organs such as the thymus and liver showed fewer age-related changes.
Researchers believe these bacteria can strengthen the immune system and help prevent age-related diseases. Kefir is rich in protein, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and vitamins B12, B2, D, and K2, and also contains probiotics that support gut health.
According to scientists, regular consumption of kefir may be beneficial for maintaining immune function and overall health in older adults.
