Nutritionists warn about the risks of therapeutic fasting

Scientists have confirmed that diets based on fasting-mimicking protocols can enhance the effectiveness of anticancer therapy. However, it is important to understand that therapeutic fasting is a tool that should only be used under medical supervision.

Before starting, a person undergoes a full medical examination to identify potential risks. For example, individuals with gastrointestinal issues may experience exacerbations if they undertake therapeutic fasting. Fasting-mimicking diets can activate a powerful process called autophagy, which allows cells to remove toxins that may contribute to various chronic diseases, according to Nation News.

Disruptions in the body’s detoxification processes are linked to many conditions, including oncological, metabolic, and mental disorders, as well as others. A common example is type 2 diabetes. Nonetheless, therapeutic fasting can have a significant health benefit if approached correctly.
