Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia will not agree to a ceasefire along the current frontline as a prerequisite for peace negotiations.
At the same time, Lavrov claimed that Moscow is “ready for negotiations” at any moment, but only if it receives what he described as “serious proposals.”
Earlier, The Economist reported that the United States and Ukraine have been discussing a two-stage ceasefire plan. According to the publication, the proposal would begin with restrictions on military activity within a 50–70 km zone on both sides of the frontline, followed by negotiations on a broader agreement.
The report also suggested that informal contacts with Russia have resumed and that Kyiv and Washington are maintaining daily communication on the issue.
A day earlier, Lavrov stated that the United States was moving away from the role of an “objective mediator” in efforts to end the war in Ukraine. He argued that Washington’s sanctions pressure on Moscow continues to intensify.
