US President Donald Trump believes that a deal to end Russia’s war against Ukraine is near.
Speaking at the annual Thanksgiving turkey pardon ceremony, Trump said that 25,000 Ukrainian and Russian soldiers have reportedly died in the past month. “So I think we are very close to reaching an agreement. We’ll see. I thought it would happen faster,” the US leader added.
Peace negotiations
The US prepared a 28-point peace plan for Ukraine and Russia. The initial version contained many of Moscow’s ultimatum demands on Kyiv.
To revise the plan, the Ukrainian delegation met with US officials in Geneva. As a result, several points were removed, including the mandatory reduction of the Ukrainian army. According to the Financial Times, the plan now contains only 19 points.
On November 24–25, US officials are holding talks with Russian representatives in Abu Dhabi. A spokesperson for the US Army said the negotiations are progressing well, but no further official details have been released.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to visit Washington and meet with President Trump before the end of November.
