Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has called on Poland to show diplomatic restraint in bilateral relations, while warning that Kyiv will respond to any actions it considers unfriendly.
Speaking during a national telethon, Sybiha said Ukraine has never sought confrontation with Warsaw and continues to value Poland’s strong support since the start of the full-scale war.
He stressed that sensitive historical issues should not be politicised and instead handled by professional historians, not used as tools in political disputes. At the same time, he warned that Ukraine will “mirror” any unfriendly steps from the Polish side.
Sybiha also criticised Polish President Karol Nawrocki, accusing him of damaging recent progress in relations, and said that such actions are “welcomed in Moscow,” suggesting Russia benefits from tensions between the two allies.
Despite the escalation, Kyiv says it remains open to continued political dialogue with Warsaw.
The tensions come after renewed disputes over historical issues, including Ukraine’s decision to name a military unit after the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), which triggered political backlash in Poland.
