Ukraine and the United States have remained in contact over the past two days, giving hope that discussions could continue at the highest political level, President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
Speaking to reporters at the site of a Russian strike in Kyiv's Darnytskyi district, Zelensky said Ukrainian officials had recently been communicating with their US counterparts.
The president also said he is still expecting a visit to Ukraine by US representatives Steve Witkoff and Keith Kellogg.
Looking ahead, Zelensky expressed hope that he would meet US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the upcoming NATO summit next week.
According to Zelensky, strengthening Ukraine's air defense will be one of Kyiv's main priorities during discussions with allies. Ukraine has been seeking additional Patriot air defense systems and licenses to support future production and maintenance.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said members of President Trump's team, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoy Steve Witkoff, are involved in diplomatic efforts aimed at advancing a peace process.
Zelensky added that previous discussions with US representatives had been constructive and expressed hope that dialogue between Kyiv and Washington would continue in the coming days.
