Ukrainian officials expect further negotiations on the US peace plan, and Ukraine is now closer to peace than ever, President Volodymyr Zelensky told Ireland’s parliament.

He said the Ukrainian delegation held briefings after talks with US officials earlier in the day and is waiting for the next round. “We are strengthening our efforts. We are now closer to peace than ever, there is a chance,” Zelensky said.

Ukraine and the United States have held two rounds of talks on the proposed US plan, which Western media reported had been reduced from 28 points. On 1 December, White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt confirmed the plan had been revised but did not disclose details.

Zelensky said the current version includes 20 points drafted in Geneva and refined in Florida. The most difficult issues remain territory, the fate of frozen Russian assets and security guarantees for Ukraine from the US and the EU.

In Moscow, US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner and Russian President Vladimir Putin are meeting to discuss the plan.
