Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Washington to meet former U.S. President Donald Trump is not scheduled for this week, sources in the White House told Suspilne.
Earlier reports suggested U.S. and Ukrainian officials were discussing a possible visit as part of Trump’s initiative to reach a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine. The trip was expected to depend on the outcome of Geneva negotiations. Some of Zelensky’s advisers, however, expressed doubts about the necessity of the visit.
Financial Times journalist Christopher Miller noted differing views: some believe Zelensky could personally discuss Trump’s “peace plan,” while others warned of potential diplomatic risks if the meeting took an unexpected turn.
Following the Geneva talks, Kyiv and Washington issued a joint statement saying the draft peace plan had been revised and now “reflects Ukraine’s national interests.” According to media reports, the plan was reduced from 28 points to 19. Oleksandr Bevz, adviser to Ukraine’s presidential office, confirmed on Facebook that some points were removed and others amended, assuring that all Ukrainian concerns had been addressed.
