The head of the National Police of Ukraine commented on the situation following reports that two officers fled the scene of a shooting in the Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district.

After the incident, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko instructed the head of the National Police, Ivan Vyhivskyi, to launch an internal investigation into the actions of the officers, who allegedly left a child in danger. Vyhivskyi confirmed that the patrol officers involved have been suspended from duty for the duration of the review.

He stressed that all circumstances must be established, including analysis of videos circulating on social media and interviews with witnesses.

According to Vyhivskyi, all collected materials will be handed over to the State Bureau of Investigation. He emphasized that the police are заинтересовані in an objective and impartial investigation and promised to inform the public of the results soon.

The day before, a man opened fire on civilians in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv. After shooting at passersby, he barricaded himself inside a supermarket, took hostages, and fired at law enforcement officers. Special forces units later neutralized the attacker. As a result of the shooting, 14 people were injured and six were killed.
