Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk and Yuliia Starodubtseva recorded wins in the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami.

Svitolina, fresh off a semifinal run in Indian Wells, defeated Australia’s Emerson Jones (ranked outside the top 100) in straight sets, 6–2, 6–4. She will next face American player Hailey Baptiste (WTA No. 45).

Kostyuk (WTA No. 28) also advanced confidently, beating former Russian-born player Kamilla Rakhimova, who now represents Kazakhstan, 6–2, 6–4. In the next round, she is set to meet world No. 2 Elena Rybakina.

Starodubtseva progressed after her opponent, Spain’s Cristina Bucșa (WTA No. 30), retired while trailing 6–2, 3–2. She will face world No. 6 Amanda Anisimova in the third round.

The only Ukrainian player to exit the second round was Dayana Yastremska, who lost to Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko 4–6, 4–6.
