Samsung, in collaboration with the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Hanyang University, is developing an innovative headset capable of reading brain electrical signals. The technology relies on electroencephalography (EEG) sensors positioned around the ear.
The prototype resembles a standard Bluetooth headset, featuring an earpiece and a frame with electrodes that wrap around the ear. While the initial version was bulky, engineers have refined the design to make it more compact and suitable for experimental use.
Tests have shown that the device can detect user drowsiness in real time. Samsung believes this feature could enhance learning efficiency and have applications both in education and beyond.
In parallel, the company unveiled an algorithm for smartwatches designed to detect early-stage heart failure. According to Samsung, this could reduce mortality risk, as current five-year survival rates for the condition are only around 50%.
