Iran has approached the United States with a request to resume negotiations, and Washington has agreed, U.S. President Donald Trump said, while stressing that the ceasefire between the two countries has come to an end.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran asked us to continue the 'talks.' We agreed to do so, but the United States made it clear that the ceasefire is over," Trump said.

On July 8, Trump officially announced the end of the ceasefire with Iran, citing attacks by the Iranian regime on commercial shipping as the reason for the decision.

The following night, the United States carried out a second consecutive day of strikes on Iranian territory. According to U.S. officials, American forces targeted nearly 100 sites.

Trump later said Tehran had reestablished contact with Washington after the latest wave of strikes and proposed reaching an agreement. He added that his administration is still considering the offer.

Meanwhile, Axios reported that the Trump administration is weighing the possibility of a prolonged military campaign against Iran, while noting that further developments will depend on Tehran's next moves.

Western media outlets have also reported that Washington is preparing for the possibility of renewed tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, where both sides could resume attacks.
