Iran has launched strikes on a US military air base in Qatar, prompting air defense systems to activate across several Gulf countries.
According to Euronews, explosions and air defense activity were reported in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, and other states in the region.
Iran also claimed responsibility for attacks targeting Jordan and Oman. The strikes came after US attacks on Iran following an incident involving a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
Qatar's Ministry of Defense said its air defense forces were continuing to intercept ballistic missiles aimed at the country.
Powerful explosions were heard over the Qatari capital, Doha, with local reports describing the intensity as comparable to the first days of the recent US-Iran confrontation.
The UAE confirmed that its air defense systems intercepted Iranian missiles, while Kuwait and Bahrain also reported engaging hostile aerial targets and urged residents to seek shelter.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had targeted the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, claiming to have struck a command-and-control center and an aircraft maintenance facility.
Qatari authorities, however, stated that all incoming missiles were successfully intercepted.
Earlier, Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz for an indefinite period after carrying out what it described as a warning shot at a commercial vessel.
