U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has arrived in India for talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with energy security expected to be one of the central topics on the agenda, according to Bloomberg.

The discussions come as India faces rising oil prices and supply disruptions linked to instability in the Middle East, including the ongoing war involving Iran and its impact on global energy flows.

Ahead of the visit, Rubio signaled that the United States is ready to increase energy exports to India as the country seeks to diversify its imports amid volatility in global oil markets. India has been particularly affected due to its reliance on supply routes passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime chokepoint.

Bloomberg notes that India has also significantly increased imports of Russian oil during the conflict period, despite earlier pressure from Washington to reduce such purchases.

Energy cooperation is expected to dominate the talks, while defense and technology issues are also on the agenda. However, analysts suggest that major policy announcements are unlikely during this visit.

Rubio will also take part in a Quad meeting involving the United States, India, Japan, and Australia, a strategic partnership widely viewed as a counterbalance to China’s growing influence in the Indo-Pacific region.

The visit comes amid ongoing efforts by Washington and New Delhi to stabilize and improve bilateral relations after periods of tension related to trade disputes, tariffs, and differing positions on regional security issues.
