Greece has formally protested to Ukraine over an incident involving a sea drone discovered near the Greek coast, according to Greek media reports.

Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis reportedly informed EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas that findings by the Greek military indicated the drone was of Ukrainian origin.

According to government spokesperson Lana Zohiou, Athens also conveyed its protest directly to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

Greek authorities claim their investigation concluded that the drone was part of a broader operation involving similar unmanned systems allegedly intended to target vessels serving Russian interests. Greece reportedly told Ukraine that it was aware of the plan and requested that Kyiv acknowledge responsibility and remove any such drones from the Mediterranean region.

The drone was found on May 7 near the Greek island of Lefkada. Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias has stated that the drone was Ukrainian and argued that Ukraine should issue an official apology over the incident.

Ukraine has not publicly commented on the allegations cited in the report.
