The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the completion of a new wave of strikes against Iran, targeting military sites during a five-hour operation aimed at reducing Tehran's ability to attack commercial shipping in the region.

According to CENTCOM, U.S. forces struck targets in Bushehr, Chabahar, Jask, Konarak, Abu Musa Island, and Bandar Abbas, using precision-guided weapons against Iran's coastal defense systems, missile and drone positions, and naval facilities.

The command also noted that more than 50,000 U.S. troops remain deployed across the Middle East and are prepared to respond if necessary.

The latest operation comes after the United States and Iran resumed open hostilities despite an earlier ceasefire agreement.

President Donald Trump has announced the restoration of a maritime blockade of Iran, plans to assert control over the Strait of Hormuz, and a proposed 20% transit fee on cargo passing through the strategic waterway.

The New York Times also reported that Trump formally notified Congress of the renewed military operations in a letter dated Friday, stating that U.S. forces carried out "defensive strikes" against targets in Iran on July 7.
