The United States carried out another overnight strike on Iran, targeting a military facility and shooting down four Iranian kamikaze drones that were considered a threat near the Strait of Hormuz, Reuters reports.
A U.S. official said the strike hit a ground control site in Bandar Abbas that was allegedly preparing to launch another drone. According to the official, the operation was defensive in nature and aimed at preserving the fragile ceasefire.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump rejected Iranian state media claims about a supposed joint Iran-Oman control mechanism over shipping in the Strait of Hormuz as part of a peace deal, insisting the waterway would remain open.
The previous U.S. strikes on targets in southern Iran took place on May 25. CENTCOM said American forces acted in self-defense, with targets including missile launchers and Iranian boats allegedly attempting to deploy naval mines.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on May 26 that negotiations on a possible agreement with Iran could still take “several days,” cooling expectations of a rapid end to the conflict after the latest American strikes.
