Israel has shared intelligence with the United States indicating that Iran has developed a new alleged plot to assassinate US President Donald Trump, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.

The report says the intelligence could signal a further escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran.

Speaking to reporters in Ankara on July 8, Trump referred to threats against his life, saying:

"They want to eliminate the leader of the United States—me."

On July 9, Trump held a phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to reports, the two leaders agreed to continue coordinating their actions, and Trump briefed Netanyahu on recent US operations in the Persian Gulf.

Iranian officials have repeatedly vowed revenge against Trump since he authorized the US strike in 2020 that killed Qasem Soleimani, the commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force.

The report also notes that differences have recently emerged between Trump and Netanyahu over strategy toward Iran. Netanyahu reportedly favors maintaining military pressure on Iran, while Trump has sought ways to limit the conflict because of concerns about its impact on the global economy.

Although the United States and Iran reached a fragile ceasefire last month, hostilities have resumed. Recent reports indicate that the Trump administration is preparing for the possibility of a prolonged exchange of attacks linked to security in the Strait of Hormuz, where freedom of navigation has become a central point of dispute.
