Ukraine needs a reliable peace with Russia and the war must be brought to an end as soon as possible, President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

Writing on Telegram, Zelensky stated that his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris lasted for several hours, with most of the discussion focused on negotiations to end the war and on future security guarantees.

“Peace must be truly reliable. The war must end as soon as possible. A lot now depends on the activity of every leader. We will also speak with other leaders today,” Zelensky emphasized.

Talks on the U.S. peace plan

In recent days, Ukrainian officials have been actively discussing the U.S. peace plan with representatives of President Donald Trump’s administration.

The initial version of the plan contained provisions unacceptable to Ukraine. One of them reportedly required the complete withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, transferring control to Russia.

The early draft also excluded any possibility of Ukraine’s future NATO membership — instead mandating a formally neutral status for the country.
