Police in Kyiv are investigating a knife attack that occurred on the morning of Monday, January 12, at one of the city’s schools, according to the Kyiv Police press service.
Preliminary reports say that a student came to school armed with a knife and attacked his teacher and a classmate. The incident was reported to law enforcement at 08:45 via the 102 emergency hotline. The victims are currently receiving medical assistance.
Police have detained the attacker. Officers are working at the scene, and investigative procedures are underway. Authorities say additional information will be released later.
Kyiv police spokesperson Yulia Hirdvilis told RBC-Ukraine that both the teacher and the student sustained injuries and are receiving first aid. “Investigative actions are ongoing. Once urgent investigative measures are completed, we will better understand the motives,” she stated.
