Four police officers killed in Cherkasy region during suspect apprehension; attacker neutralized
Four police officers were killed today in Cherkasy region during the apprehension of a suspect wanted for murder, the head of the National Police of Ukraine, Ivan Vyhovskyi, reported. According to Vyhovskyi, the suspect opened fire on law enforcement officers during the arrest operation. The attacker was neutralized.
"Four police officers gave their lives to ensure that the killer could never threaten the lives of civilians again. This is the terrible price paid by those who remained on duty until the very end," Vyhovskyi wrote on Facebook.
The National Police head also named the officers who died in the line of duty:
- Major Serhiy Safronov, platoon commander of the Rapid Response Unit of the Special Police Company in Cherkasy region, combat veteran;
- Major Oleksandr Florinskyi, deputy commander of the Special Police Company, combat veteran;
- Senior Lieutenant Denys Polovynka, platoon inspector;
- Major Volodymyr Boiko, community police officer in the Prevention Department, combat veteran.
Vyhovskyi emphasized the cost of maintaining public safety even far from the frontlines: “Police officers go on duty every day aware of all risks. They risk their lives not only on the front lines, but also at home — in our cities and villages, during arrests, emergency calls, and special operations. There are no ‘safe shifts’ or ‘quiet days’ for them. Every deployment could be their last.”
