In the small Canadian town of Tumbler Ridge in northeastern British Columbia, a woman is believed to have carried out a school shooting, killing 10 people and injuring 25 others, Bloomberg and The Guardian report.
The shooting at the high school was reported at 1:20 p.m. local time. Emergency responders found six victims and the suspected shooter at the scene, who is believed to have died by suicide.
Authorities later discovered two more victims in a private residence linked to the incident, and one of the injured died during air evacuation to a hospital. Investigators are continuing to search additional locations to determine the full scope of the tragedy, which is considered one of the deadliest mass shootings in Canadian history.
The identity of the shooter has not been released as evidence collection at the crime scenes is ongoing. Around 25 injured people are under medical supervision, most with moderate injuries.
In a police warning advising residents to shelter in place and lock doors, the suspect was described as “a woman in a dress with brown hair.”
