In Dnipropetrovsk region, the SBU uncovered a draft-dodging scheme. Over $300,000 was found with the head of a local military enlistment commission (VLC).
Investigators found that she and accomplices issued fake medical certificates to help military-aged men avoid conscription, charging at least $2,500 per “service.” A TCC employee and a local resident assisted in recruiting clients and updating records.
The SBU documented more than 20 bribery cases. The VLC head and an accomplice face charges for obstructing the armed forces and taking illegal benefits, punishable by up to 10 years in prison with asset confiscation.
Similar anti-draft corruption schemes have recently been uncovered in eight other regions, involving military officials, doctors, and organizers of illegal border crossings.
