A terrorist attack occurred in Lviv on the night of February 22, likely orchestrated by Russia. Authorities quickly identified and apprehended a suspected female perpetrator using security camera footage.
Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko stated that, in addition to the death of patrol officer Viktoriia Shpylka, 25 people were injured, including six officers in serious condition. Eleven victims remain hospitalized, receiving medical care.
Thanks to surveillance footage, law enforcement traced the suspect’s movements and recorded the placement of the explosive device. The police and SBU arrested the suspected attacker within 10 hours of the explosion. Investigations continue to identify other individuals involved.
The blasts occurred around 00:30 after a report of a break-in at a store on Danylyshyn Street. The first explosion hit the responding patrol, and a second went off when the next unit arrived, damaging both police and civilian vehicles.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 258, Part 2 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code for a terrorist act with severe consequences. The main version of events points to Russia as the orchestrator. President Volodymyr Zelensky has been briefed on the situation by Minister Klymenko.
