A police officer was killed and 24 people were injured in explosions in Lviv. Law enforcement officials have released new details of the incident, which has been classified as a terrorist attack.
This was reported by the National Police.
How the explosions happened
According to police, at around 00:30 a call was received on the 102 emergency line reporting a break-in at a shop on Danylyshyna Street. When a patrol police crew arrived at the scene, an explosion occurred.
Later, when a second patrol arrived, another explosion went off. Preliminary reports indicate that improvised explosive devices were used.
Victims and consequences
A 23-year-old policewoman was killed in the blasts.
Another 24 people were injured.
A patrol police service vehicle and a civilian car were also damaged.
Investigators, bomb disposal specialists and other emergency services worked at the scene. The injured are receiving the necessary medical assistance.
A criminal case has been opened under Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — a terrorist act causing severe consequences. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in the Lviv region.
Law enforcement officers are currently establishing all circumstances of the incident and identifying those involved in organizing it.
What is known about the victim
According to police, the officer killed in the nighttime attack was 23-year-old Viktoriia Shpylka. She was originally from the Volyn region, but later moved to Kherson with her parents.
She graduated from the Lviv State University of Internal Affairs. She initially served in the Kherson region and had been serving in the Lviv region since 2023. Last autumn she got married — her husband is also a patrol officer.
The attack in Lviv
Several explosions were heard in central Lviv overnight. Earlier reports mentioned at least one person killed and 14 injured. Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi immediately described the incident as a terrorist attack.
